What is arulmozhi varman?

Arulmozhi Varman, also known as Rajaraja I, was a celebrated emperor of the Chola dynasty in South India. He ruled from 985-1014 AD and is often considered one of the greatest kings of the Tamil dynasty.

Under his rule, the Chola empire expanded considerably, with his military campaigns taking control of Sri Lanka, parts of the Maldives, and regions of Southeast Asia. He is famously known for building the Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur, which remains a UNESCO World Heritage site and a symbol of his architectural prowess.

Rajaraja I was known for his administrative and military skills, as well as his patronage of the arts and literature. He also established a strong naval fleet, which helped the Cholas maintain their dominance in the Indian Ocean.

Despite his military conquests, Rajaraja I was seen as a benevolent ruler who was concerned with the welfare of his subjects. He was deeply involved in religious affairs and was a devotee of Lord Shiva. He died in 1014 AD and was succeeded by his son Rajendra Chola I.
